Hello World! -or- The Most Unoriginal Title for a First Blog Entry

Well, I guess calling it "First Post" would be more unoriginal, but less geeky.

So, this is the blog Marianne set up for me to post the pictures I've been taking. Left to my own devices, I'd probably just keep saying "Man, I've got to set up a place to post these." but never get around to it. That said, we'll see how often I actually do update this thing.

So, back to the main reason why we're both here: pictures.

Miles - 8/10/07

I recently decided to take up photography as a hobby. After reading up a bit on how the imps living in my camera know how to paint what I'm looking at, I did some experimenting with our P&S (Point and Shoot) camera and found it to be lacking. After more reading and research, I picked up a spiffy SLR that gives me so many more options to play with.

LuLu - 8/6/07

So, I've been wandering around our house, our yard, and our neighborhood with this thing taking hundreds of pictures. (Let's see... I currently have 1386 images taken in the last month since I got the camera.) Of course, most of them are crap. But that's kind of the point. Since it's all digital, I can try out lots of things to see what works without having to pay for film or getting it developed. (Hmm... Have I dated myself with that statement?) So, when I do have a picture that turns out good, I'll post it up here. That way all 7 readers of this blog can see them.

A Patch of Sunlight.

So I was on my way back upstairs to play some more Final Fantasy 9

Yes, I know it's an old game, but it's a good one. I had a hankering to play some FF9 over Labor day weekend, so I dug it out of the closet, and took the PS2 upstairs to connect to the old TV.

You see, our living room TV, a beautiful 50" plasma, is now just a heavy black box hanging on the wall. I wasn't there when it happened. Marianne says she was just watching a DVD when >POP< and no more TV. It's only 15 months old and under Best Buy's extended service plan (I'm glad we paid the extra money for that!) Marianne called up their service number and found out that they'd have to send out a technician to verify that it's not working before they'll replace it. You know, just in case we forgot to plug it in, or something. The soonest they could schedule the tech visit was Friday. Almost a week away! (Did I mention this happened on a Saturday?)

Friday rolls around, and the tech looks at it and says that it's just the power supply which he can replace... after he orders a new one from the factory. (Then Labor day weekend ensues, and I start playing FF9. But more about the TV, first.)

He came back around yesterday (Saturday) with the new power supply. (Now 2 weeks since the >POP<) I really should have taken a picture while he had the TV apart and spread across our couch. But after tinkering with it for awhile, he declares the screen dead as well. The screen being a non-replaceable part, we should be getting a replacement TV. As soon as Monday rolls around so the appropriate paperwork can be filed. So by tomorrow we might have a new TV. At least one on order, pending delivery and installation.

So, my craving for some FF9. I'm not sure what brought that about, but it is fun going through the storyline again. It's funny how many parts I had forgotten about. Case in point, I'm currently in the tunnel on my way to the Outer Continent. I don't remember going to another continent last time. And I certainly don't remember this weird character, Quina, who joined my party.

Well, it has been about 7 years since I last played it.

And my normal after-work routine at the time included beer while playing. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Now where was I?

Oh, yes. I was on my way upstairs (to play FF9 b/c the downstairs TV don't work) and I ran across Deliah lounging in a patch of sunlight. So I grabbed my camera to take some pics before Lulu figured out there was a cat on the floor to sit on.

You can see from the picture that she was not happy with me interrupting her day.

After I gave her a few hours of peace (and leveled up my characters a bit), she was in a better mood and did some posing for me.

So, yeah. That was pretty much my day. FF9 and annoying the cat.

Avast, ye Land Lubbers

It be Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Well, I don't have any pirate-themed pictures, so here are some of tonight's sunset.

I've got lots of pictures of the zoo from Sunday. I'll post some once I've had more time to sort through them all.

EDIT: They're doing it wrong.

New Headphones

My headphones at work broke. They've been cracked for awhile now and finally gave up the ghost on Tuesday. I can't really blame them; they lasted for about 5 years. It was urgent that I replace them, though. (Some of my cube neighbors can be loud.) I stopped at Fry's Electronics on the way to work, and found that they had 2 models like my old ones. One was black and expensive, and the other was silver and more expensive. I compared the specs and the only difference was the silver one had neodymium magnets and more wattage. Thinking I would save myself some money, I bought the black ones. But, when I opened them up at the office, I found that the earpieces were smaller than the old ones. Instead of fitting around my ears, they sat on them. Very uncomfortable. These would not do.

I had to go back to Fry's after lunch to trade-up for the silvers. But, oh they were worth it.

I also uploaded the zoo pictures.

Oh, and Google is 9 today.

Happy birthday Google!
