December 2007 Archives

December 29, 2007

For Christmas, my wife's parents gave me an incredable macro lens, the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x. It can magnify the subject up to five times life size. It's like using a microscope. Here's the first picture I took with it. Can you tell it's a key?

In order to focus on something that close, the lens needs to push out from the camera sensor quite a bit.

Here's the normal size of the lens.
(Note the happy photographer)

And here it is cranked all the way out.

I won't go into the dirty details of how photomacrography works (because there's a really good explanation over here which includes a bear).
Instead, I'll just show you some of my pictures.

We ran across this sign a few days ago while walking the dog.

So, I guess they empty the recycle bin on the 14th.
